Building a Strong Player Profile
If you want to get on a college coach’s radar, you need to leave a lasting impression. A strong, organized, and easy-to-access profile shows coaches that you’re serious, prepared, and ready for the next level. It’s more than listing stats—it’s your personal highlight reel, resume, and recruiting snapshot all in one. This blog post breaks down what makes a great player profile and how you can build one that gets attention.
College coaches are juggling a lot: managing their current roster, planning for future classes, attending games, traveling, and answering hundreds of emails from potential recruits. When they open your player profile, they’re scanning for quick answers:
· Who is this athlete?
· What position do they play?
· Are they academically eligible?
· What year are they?
· Can they contribute to our program?
A well-organized, easy-to-read profile shows coaches that you respect their time and understand the process. It gives them what they need up front, so they can make a decision to keep watching—or reach out.
To create a complete profile, include the following information and be sure to update it on a regular basis:
Name, school, and city/state
Academic Info
Graduation year
GPA, SAT/ACT scores
Honors and awards
Athletic Info
Sport(s), Position(s), specialty, or discipline
Height, weight, etc.
Performance statistics and accolades
Links to highlight videos and full game film
Contact info (for you and your high school / club coach)
Be unique and add a short video of yourself as your introduction. Your video doesn’t have to be perfect, just real. Show that your confident enough to be seen, to learn, and to grow throughout the recruiting process.
You should link your profile in every email and DM you send to your prospective coaches, so be sure it is presented in a clean and accessible platform. Haystack, Athletic Cohesion’s powerful recruiting software, meets this standard and is mobile. And in a busy coach’s world, mobile-friendly equals coach-friendly.
Remember, your player profile is more than a form—it is your opportunity to stand out. Coaches aren’t just looking for athletes. They are looking for athletes who are organized, motivated, and ready.
